SSU detains GRU informant who spied on Defence Forces in Donbas
In Donetsk oblast, the SSU detained another agent of the main directorate of the general staff of the russian armed forces (aka ‘the GRU’).
The spy was collecting intelligence for occupiers on locations and movement of the Defence Forces near Sloviansk, Lyman and Mykolaivka.
He paid special attention to routes of Ukrainian military convoys crossing the Siverskyi Donets River in Bakhmut’s direction.
The informant also passed coordinates of local factories and railway infrastructure to the aggressor.
The enemy needed the intelligence to prepare air and drone strikes on Ukrainian targets.
According to the investigation, the aggressor’s accomplice is a resident of liberated Lyman, who was recruited by the russian military intelligence remotely.
To transmit the information, he ‘liaised’ with a scout of the GRU assault battalion and a tank gunner of the enemy tactical group ‘Kupol’.
Communication was maintained through the banned social network Odnoklassniki.
The SSU has now served the detainee a notice of suspicion of committing a crime.
The suspect is in custody. The investigation is underway.
The SSU Office in Donetsk and Luhansk regions carried out the operation under the procedural supervision of Donetsk Region Prosecutor’s Office.
