SSU detains wagner informant who spied on military airfields in Donetsk region

The SSU prevented new attempts of russian federation to obtain up-to-date information about the Ukrainian Defence Forces in Donetsk region.

Following counter-sabotage measures, the SSU detained an enemy informant who was monitoring the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Kramatorsk region.

The perpetrator received this task from the militants of the russian private military company wagner, which is now part of the regular troops of the aggressor country.

On the instructions of the occupying forces, the defendant was to identify and provide them with the exact coordinates of the airfields where the combat helicopters of the Ukrainian Armed Forces were based.

wagner representatives also wanted to know the location of personnel and heavy weapons of the Ukrainian troops defending the district centre.

In case of receiving intelligence, the racists planned to use it to prepare combat operations in the Kramatorsk and Sloviansk directions.

But the SSU exposed the Russian informant in time.

Following the investigation, the aggressor's accomplice was a local resident, an ideological supporter of the kremlin regime.

He agreed to work for the occupiers in autumn 2023. They contacted the man remotely through his russian acquaintance, who ‘worked’ for a member of the wagnerian occupation group.

The informant communicated with her via a messenger, following secrecy measures. For example, the offender regularly deleted all messages after the communication session with the woman.

During the search, a mobile phone with evidence of intelligence and subversive activities in favour of russia was seized from the detainee.

The SSU investigators served the man a notice of suspicion under Article 114-2.2 of the CCU (unauthorised dissemination of information on the sending, movement of weapons, armaments and ammunition to Ukraine, movement, relocation or deployment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine).

The perpetrator is currently in custody. He faces up to 8 years in prison.

The operation was carried out by SSU officers in Donetsk and Luhansk regions under the procedural supervision of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor's Office.
