SSU detains informant intending to guide enemy to Ukrainian air defence systems near Cherkasy and Odesa

The SSU Counterintelligence has prevented a new series of russian missile strikes on Cherkasy and Odesa regions.

This was possible as the SSU timely uncovered a traitor who was gathering information on air defence radar stations in these regions. This equipment protects the infrastructure and helps air defence systems detect enemy missiles and drones.

According to the investigation, the perpetrator is a 47-year-old resident of Cherkasy, an ideological supporter of ruscism.

After russia’s full-scale invasion, the man hoped that his ‘work’ would be noticed by the invaders.

He began collecting information on the locations of Ukraine’s Defence Forces and disseminated the collected data in the public domain.

The SSU uncovered and documented his criminal intentions at an early stage.

During the searches at the suspect’s home, the SSU found mobile phones with evidence of the crime.

SSU investigators served the detainee a notice of suspicion under two Articles of the CCU:

  • 114-2.2 (unauthorized dissemination of information on the direction, movement of weapons, movement, transfer or deployment of the AFU, committed under martial law);
  • 436-2.1, 436-2.3 (justification, recognition as legitimate, denial of russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, glorification of its participants).

The court chose custody as a measure of restraint.

The investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the crime. The suspect faces up to 8 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Cherkasy region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
