SSU detains former leader of ‘LNR MGB’ special unit who took part in capturing Luhansk airport
In Luhansk region, the SSU counterintelligence detained a former militant of the so-called ‘Ministry of State Security of LNR’, wanted for participation in IAFs and trespass against territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine.
According to the investigation, at the initial stage of the Russian aggression this resident of Luhansk held the position of combat tactical group commander in ‘Odesa separate special purpose brigade’ of the so-called ‘Ministry of State Security of LNR’ and personally took part in the armed resistance to ATO/JFO.
The unit he headed assisted pro-Russian militants in the assault on Luhansk airport, capture of banking institutions and residential buildings. This employee of the so-called ‘MGB’ coordinated the search for and detention of Ukrainian patriots in the terrorist-held territories, as well as interaction of local militants with Russian handlers.
After a conflict with other warlords, the criminal left the IAF and was hiding in Russia for a long time.
The SSU investigators have notified the detainee of suspicion of crimes under Article 110 (trespass against territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine) and Article 260 (participation in unlawful armed groups) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The court has chosen detention as a measure of restraint. Investigation is underway to identify and bring to justice individuals involved in crimes against the state security of Ukraine.
The special operation to lure the militant to the government-controlled territory was carried out jointly with the State Border Guard Service under the supervision of Luhansk Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
