SSU detains FSB spotter in Dnipropetrovsk region recruited by russia on ‘intimate’ dating website
The SSU Counterintelligence has detained another agent of russia’s federal security service in Dnipropetrovsk region. He adjusted artillery shelling and drone strikes on the frontline town of Nikopol.
The investigation established that the attacks on the city were guided by a 42-year-old local unemployed man who was hiding from mobilisation.
He came to the enemy’s attention when he was looking for a partner on a dating site. A ‘freelance employee’ of the russian service contacted the man and offered to ‘get to know him better’.
During their communication, the woman told him that she lived in the temporarily occupied city of Kakhovka. Having gained the man’s trust through manipulation, she put him in direct contact with the FSB.
After recruitment, the agent received detailed instructions from his handler on how to spy on Ukrainian units defending the city.
To gather intelligence, the traitor walked around the city, evading checkpoints, and covertly collected information on the Defence Forces.
The asset immediately sent the collected information to the FSB. According to available data, the occupiers planned to use an FPV drone to deliver an improvised explosive device to the agent for a terrorist attack in Dnipropetrovsk region.
The SSU Counterintelligence identified the agent at an early stage, documented his crimes, and detained him at his home. Action was taken to protect the locations of the Defence Forces.
A smartphone with evidence of working for the enemy was seized from the suspect during the search.
SSU investigators have notified the perpetrator of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).
The suspect is in custody without bail and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Dnipropetrovsk region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
