SSU detains FSB spotter who adjusted russian strikes on Kyiv
In Kyiv, the SSU Counterintelligence has detained an agent of russia’s federal security service who was adjusting russia’s massive missile and drone attacks on the Ukrainian capital. He is a 36-year-old employee of a local company that installs security and fire alarms at strategically important facilities in Ukraine.
This autumn, the perpetrator collected coordinates of potential targets for the ruscists’ attacks on the city.
During his work trips, the agent also recorded the consequences of enemy strikes on the energy facilities, immediately reporting this to the FSB for the purpose of adjusting repeat attacks.
Hoping to evade Ukrainian air defences, the aggressor state asked its accomplice for information on the locations of Ukrainian missile systems and mobile air defence teams.
The SSU identified the traitor, documented his activities, and detained him.
As the investigation established, the man came to the FSB’s attention in the spring of this year because of his comments on Telegram and VKontakte, where he called for the occupation of Ukraine.
The asset was recruited remotely, given tasks and trained in the use of covert communication channels: anonymous chats in messenger apps and email.
Smartphones, flash drives and eight Ukrainian SIM cards, which he used for conspiracy, were seized from the suspect during searches.
SSU investigators have notified the detainee of suspicion under three Articles of the CCU:
- 111.2 (high treason, committed under martial law);
- 436-2.3 (justification, recognition as lawful, denial of russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, glorification of its participants, committed either repeatedly or by an organised group or using the mass media);
- 110.2 (encroachment on the territorial integrity of Ukraine, committed repeatedly, or upon prior conspiracy, by a group, or combined with incitement of national or religious enmity).
The suspect is in custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kyiv and the Kyiv region jointly with the SSU Main Investigation Directorate under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
