The Security Service of Ukraine has detained yet another spotter involved in russia’s massive missile and drone strikes on Kyiv. He turned out to be a local builder recruited by the FSB, who had previously been prosecuted for drug offences.

As the investigation revealed, the repeat offender carried out the enemy’s orders to direct russian ballistic missiles and strike drones at logistics centres and warehouses in the Kyiv region.

The traitor was also tracking the Defence Forces’ deployment locations, in particular the positions of checkpoints and the bases of Ukrainian unmanned aerial systems.

To identify potential ‘targets’, he walked around the area with the GPS navigation function on his smartphone activated, which the russians used to monitor all the routes taken by the asset during his reconnaissance missions.

Whenever he identified objects which, in the agent’s opinion, might form part of the logistical and defence infrastructure, he photographed and filmed them, and also marked their coordinates on Google Maps.

The perpetrator also documented the aftermath of previous strikes on Kyiv.

He compiled the information gathered into a ‘report’ for subsequent transmission to his FSB handler.

The SSU apprehended the suspect at the flat of his acquaintances upon his return from yet another reconnaissance mission.

According to the investigation, the repeat offender was recruited by the FSB after coming to the attention of the russian intelligence on Telegram channels offering ‘easy’ money.

During a search, a smartphone containing evidence of his activities on behalf of the enemy was seized from the detainee.

SSU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The suspect faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kyiv and the Kyiv Region under the procedural supervision of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.
