The SSU Counterintelligence has detained yet another agent of russian military intelligence (‘the GRU’) in Odesa. The perpetrator was directing russian missile and drone attacks against the defenders of the port city.

The investigation established that the priority ‘targets’ identified for the asset by the enemy were locations with high concentration of personnel and military equipment of the Ukrainian Defence Forces.

The agent also attempted to locate radar stations, anti-aircraft missile system positions and mobile air defence squads.

To enable russian strikes against these targets, the agent walked around the city and photographed the locations of the Defence Forces using his mobile phone camera.

In addition, he documented the aftermath of attacks on Odesa to help adjust subsequent shelling of the city.

The SSU caught the suspect ‘red-handed’ whilst he was photographing the outer perimeter of one of the military installations on his smartphone.

According to the investigation, the spotter is a local unemployed man who had been recruited by the GRU. He was part of an agent network working for the traitor Serhiy Lebedev (alias ‘Lokhmatyi’), who is in hiding in Donetsk and collaborates simultaneously with the FSB and russia’s military intelligence.

During the search of the suspect’s home, computer equipment and a mobile phone containing photo and video files, as well as geolocation data for potential ‘targets’, were seized.

SSU investigators have notified the detainee of his status as a suspect under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The suspect has been remanded in custody without the right to bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Odesa region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
