SSU detains spotter who guided russian June 2 attacks on Dnipro (video)
The Security Service of Ukraine has detained an enemy agent who was involved in preparing of the russian missile and drone attack on Dnipro on the night of 2 June. He turned out to be a former soldier from the Krynychky district of the region who had been recruited by the enemy and also had a russian passport.
The investigation revealed that the suspect had tracked the flight times and routes of Ukrainian Air Force fighter jets and helicopters defending the skies over the frontline region.
The ruscists were looking for ‘weak spots’ in the region’s air defence in order to identify the locations of Ukrainian aviation bases and launch a combined strike at them.
To gather intelligence, the agent went out during air raid alerts to record the take-off times and coordinates of Defence Forces aircraft and helicopters.
The russian intelligence operatives recruited the asset via a Telegram channel on which he had been seeking to make contact with the russians.
During his reconnaissance activities, the suspect drove around the area in his car, constantly changing locations to gather intelligence.
The SSU detained the traitor at his home. A russian passport and a smartphone containing evidence of his work for the enemy were found in his possession during a search.
SSU investigators notified the detainee of his status as a suspect under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).
The suspect is in custody without bail and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in the Dnipropetrovsk region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
