SSU detains GRU spotter guiding enemy strikes on Kyiv
The SSU Counterintelligence has detained another agent of russian military intelligence (‘the GRU’) who guided russian airstrikes on Kyiv and the Donetsk region.
The enemy asset turned out to be a security guard at one of the capital’s universities. He was recruited through his sister, who lives in russia.
Subsequently, the agent’s relative acted as a ‘liaison’. It was through her that he transmitted coordinates to the GRU.
In Kyiv, the perpetrator collected data on the aftermath of russian attacks to coordinate repeated strikes on the city. Among his priority ‘targets’ were combined heat and power plants and other energy infrastructure facilities in Kyiv.
It has been documented how the agent drove around the city, identified the sites of enemy hits, marked their geolocation on Google Maps, and photographed damaged structures.
He also collected data on the deployment of reserve command posts and combat positions of the Defence Forces in the Donetsk region.
To this end, the traitor covertly elicited information from acquaintances about Ukrainian defenders in different sectors of the eastern front.
The SSU apprehended the suspect at his home in the Kyiv region. A smartphone containing evidence of his work for the enemy was seized during the search.
SSU investigators have notified the detainee of his status as a suspect under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).
The suspect is in custody without bail and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in the Cherkasy region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
