SSU detains spotter helping russia prepare missile strike on one of Ukraine’s largest power plants

The Security Service has apprehended another enemy informant in Kharkiv region. He was gathering data to prepare a repeat russian airstrike on one of Ukraine’s largest thermal power plants.

According to the SSU cyber team and investigators, the task was carried out by a resident of Chuhuiv district who had been recruited by the enemy and previously worked as an electric welder at this key energy site.

The individual was spotted by the russian intelligence when he posted pro-kremlin comments in Telegram chat rooms.

The asset received instructions from a handler in russia to assess the technical condition and progress of restoration work at the thermal power plant following the russian attack on the facility.

He was also tasked with inspecting the area near the plant to spot any air defence systems protecting the strategic facility.

The agent gathered this information by scouting the area near the TPP, as well as through conversations with his acquaintances.

The SSU acted pre-emptively and detained the traitor at an early stage of his espionage activities.

A smartphone, on which he stored information collected for russia, was seized during the search.

SSU investigators have notified him of suspicion under Article 114-2.2 of the CCU (unauthorised dissemination of information on movement or deployment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with the possibility of their identification on the ground, committed under martial law).

The investigation is ongoing. The suspect is in custody without bail and faces up to 8 years in prison.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kharkiv region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
