SSU detains spotter who adjusted russian artillery fire at military targets in Donetsk region

As a result of counter-sabotage operations in the frontline areas of Donetsk oblast, the SSU identified another enemy accomplice.

The offender is a resident of Bilozerske district, who in July 2022 contacted the occupiers remotely and offered his assistance in the war against Ukraine.

Then, he collected information for the invaders on location and movements of the Defence Forces units near Bakhmut.

The aggressor was primarily interested in intelligence on radar stations of Ukrainian troops.

The informant also passed to the aggressor coordinates of bases with Ukrainian military.

Using his ‘tip-offs’, ruscists carried out artillery strikes on military targets.

The SSU apprehended the suspect when he was executing the enemy’s reconnaissance assignment.

SSU cyber specialists identified that he had communicated with russians through a ‘liaison officer’ – an employee of the ‘LNR militia’ established by the occupiers.

Following his instructions, the agent went to the target area and collected intelligence, which he passed to the enemy with a detailed description of the site and the adjacent area, mapped geolocation points, via a messenger in one of the popular social networks.

During the search of the suspect’s home, the SSU found a cell phone and a laptop, which the individual used to contact the enemy.

Based on the collected evidence, SSU investigators served the detained man a notice of suspicion under Article 111-1.7 of the CCU (collaboration).

The suspect is currently in custody, facing up to 15 years in prison.

The SSU Office in Cherkasy region carried out the operation under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
