In the Rivne region, the Security Service of Ukraine has detained another russian informant. The perpetrator installed hidden phone cameras to direct enemy strikes at the western regions of Ukraine.

As the investigation revealed, the suspect set up camouflaged smartphones near defence facilities that the enemy was targeting with missiles and drones.

To direct the shelling, each spy device had remote access for the russian intelligence, who hoped to use this feature to guide attacks in real time.

The SSU identified the collaborator at an early stage and caught him as he was setting up a ‘video trap’ on the roof of an abandoned building near a military facility.

The Security Service gathered further evidence against the suspect.

The spotter turned out to be an employee of a local agricultural enterprise, who came to the aggressor’s attention via Telegram channels offering ‘easy money’.

After receiving instructions, the informant travelled around the area by public transport, identifying sites which, in his opinion, were being used by the Defence Forces.

He then installed hidden phones with cameras at these locations and reported to the ruscists that he was ready to direct the shelling.

During searches, smartphones, which he had used for covert communication with russia and to gather intelligence, were seized from the suspect.

SSU investigators have notified the detainee of suspicion under Articles 15.2 and 114-2.3 of the CCU (completed attempt to unlawfully disseminate information regarding the movement, deployment or location of the Armed Forces of Ukraine under martial law).

The suspect is in custody without bail and faces up to 12 years’ imprisonment.

The investigation is ongoing, and further charges may be brought against the enemy spotter.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in the Rivne region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
