SSU detains FSB mole who guided russian missiles at his unit’s positions stationing over 100 drone operators

The Security Service’s Military Counterintelligence, with the assistance of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, has exposed yet another enemy agent within the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He turned out to be a conscript from the Zhytomyr region who had been recruited by the FSB and who directed a russian air strike against his own UAV unit.

Thanks to the SSU’s swift response, over 100 Ukrainian drone operators were evacuated from the potential strike zone in time, and the enemy spotter was detained.

As the investigation revealed, the suspect leaked the Defence Forces’ coordinates to russia’s federal security service after deserting his military unit and travelling to the Kyiv region.

Whilst in the Kyiv region, the deserter tracked for the russians the locations of the Ukrainian army’s logistics centres, on the basis of which the enemy was preparing missile strikes.

The SSU documented his crimes and detained him near one of the critically important depots in the Kyiv region.

The traitor had been recruited by the FSB even before being conscripted into the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Initially, the asset carried out ‘test’ tasks: tracking the locations of fuel and energy facilities in northern Ukraine.

The russian operatives then instructed him to enlist in the Defence Forces in order to spy ‘from within’ the Ukrainian troops.

Whilst undergoing training on a course for UAV operators, he collected personal data on the command staff and personnel of the training centre.

In exchange for cooperation, the russian handler promised extraction to russia and russian citizenship.

Upon the mole’s arrest, a smartphone containing evidence of his work for the FSB was seized.

SSU investigators notified him of his status as a suspect under two Articles of the CCU:

  • 111.2 (high treason, committed under martial law);
  • 259.2 (knowingly false reporting of a bomb threat at a critical infrastructure facility).

The suspect is in custody without bail and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out under the procedural supervision of the Kyiv Specialised Defence Prosecutor’s Office and the Sviatoshyn District Prosecutor’s Office of Kyiv.
