SSU detains GRU mole who collected intelligence on Offensive Guard brigades of Ukraine’s MIA

In Kyiv region, the SSU Military Counterintelligence has exposed another informant of the main directorate of the general staff of the russian armed forces (known as ‘the GRU’). The individual has been mobilized to the National Guard; prior to that the aggressor recruited him remotely through a popular online gaming platform.

On the GRU’s instructions, the mole collected intelligence on deployment and movement of combat units of the Offensive Guard assault brigades of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.

The enemy was primarily interested in information on locations of rapid response units of the 4th Rubizh Operational Assault Brigade.

The occupiers needed the intelligence to prepare and carry out targeted air strikes on Ukrainian units using missiles and kamikaze drones.

The SSU documented his criminal actions and apprehended him on the territory of a National Guard military unit.

According to the investigation, the enemy accomplice is a local resident, whom the russian intelligence service had engaged in cooperation before he was mobilized to the Ukrainian army.

The man came to the aggressor’s attention as an active user of online games, where he has published his anti-Ukrainian comments.

The enemy asset started to carry out reconnaissance and sabotage activity after he was drafted into one of the National Guard’s military units.

The russian mole collected the intelligence when he was guarding the locations of military equipment, weapons and ammunition of the Defence Forces.

The data were transmitted to the occupiers via a messenger app as media files with electronic coordinates of Ukrainian targets.

During the searches, the SSU seized a mobile phone which the suspect used for communication with the GRU.

SSU investigators have notified the detained enemy agent of suspicion under Article 114-2.2 of the CCU (unauthorized dissemination of information on sending, transfer of weapons, armaments and ammunition to Ukraine, movement, transfer or deployment of the AFU or other lawful military formations, committed under martial law).

The suspect is in custody, facing up to 8 years in prison.

The operation was carried out under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office.
