SSU detains mole in army who leaked his unit’s combat positions in Donetsk region

With the assistance of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces, the Security Service’s Military Counterintelligence has detained another FSB agent in Donetsk region.

The perpetrator is a machine-gunner from one of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ unmanned systems brigades who had been recruited by the aggressor state. He was guiding enemy strikes at the positions of his own unit, deployed in the Kramatorsk sector.

The investigation revealed that the suspect had been leaking information to the ruscists about his company’s movement and combat missions.

He was also providing intelligence to russia’s federal security service on the aftermath of enemy shelling on his unit’s deployment points along the front line.

The SSU identified the mole in the early stages of his espionage activities and caught him while he was preparing a new ‘report’ for the FSB.

According to the investigation, the asset was recruited by the russians via a Telegram channel offering opportunities to seek intimate relationships.

Having agreed to collaborate with the enemy, the serviceman began marking the geolocations of Ukrainian defenders on Google Maps and covertly photographing their facilities with his mobile phone.

During searches, a mobile phone containing evidence of the agent’s work for the FSB was seized.

The SSU has notified the detainee of suspicion under Article 114-2.2 of the CCU (unauthorised disclosure of information on movements, deployment or location of the AFU, under martial law).

The suspect is in custody without bail and faces up to eight years’ imprisonment.

In addition, the investigation is ongoing, and the suspect’s actions may be reclassified as high treason.

The operation was carried out under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
