The SSU Counterintelligence jointly with the Armed Forces of Ukraine detained a militant of the so-called ‘LNR’ on the contact line. The individual participated in shelling of the JFO positions in Bakhmut district of Donetsk region.

The militant was disoriented and approached the government-controlled positions.

The SSU identified that the detainee is a native of Russia, who in 2018 joined the IAF and served as a marksman and later as an assistant grenade launcher operator.

The following items were seized from the militant:

• military ID of the so-called ‘LNR’;
• ID of a resident of temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine;
• loaded magazine for Kalashnikov rifle.

The SSU investigators have notified the detainee of suspicion of trespass against territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine and participation in a terrorist group.

The court is to decide on the measure of restraint.

The investigation is underway to establish all the circumstances of illegal activity.

The SSU carried out the operation under the supervision of Donetsk Region Prosecutor’s Office.
