SSU detains saleswoman spying on AFU echelons in Donetsk region

The SSU has uncovered another russian military intelligence informant who collected information on the Defense Forces and adjusted enemy fire on civilian infrastructure in Donetsk region.

On 6 January 2024, using her intelligence, the ruscists carried out a missile attack on a residential area in Pokrovskyi district. As a result, 6 civilians were killed, including two children.

The spy also recorded the frequency of movement of echelons with AFU heavy armored vehicles and artillery toward the front.

To fulfill this task, the enemy asset got a job as a saleswoman at a train station kiosk in the frontline area.

There, she elicited ‘necessary’ information from the station employees during confidential conversations and sales of goods.

Moreover, the traitor tried to covertly record the movement of Ukrainian troops.

The informant remotely passed the intelligence to a GRU officer, who has been identified by the SSU.

They used an anonymous chat in a popular messenger app for communication. The spy sent her handler ‘reports’ and photos of Ukrainian ‘targets’ with georeferencing.

As a result of the operation, the SSU detained the informant at her home.

According to the investigation, the russian GRU recruited the woman before the full-scale invasion. At that time, she came to temporarily occupied Donetsk to visit her husband, serving a prison sentence in a local colony.

After his release, he voluntarily joined the Wagner private military company, and his wife began collaborating with the russian military intelligence.

In the summer of 2023, the woman contacted her russian handler, who tasked her to collect intelligence near Bakhmut.

During the search of the suspect’s home, the SSU seized a mobile phone used by her in reconnaissance and sabotage activities.

Based on the evidence, SSU investigators have served the detainee a notice of suspicion under Article 114-2.3 of the CCU (unauthorized dissemination of information on transfer, movement, or deployment of the AFU committed under martial law).

The suspect is in custody, facing up to 12 years in prison.

The SSU Office in Donetsk and Luhansk regions carried out the operation jointly with the National Police under the supervision of Donetsk Region Prosecutor’s Office.
