SSU detains FSB saboteurs who tried to blow up railway in Poltava region (video)
The SSU has thwarted enemy sabotage at a strategic Ukrzaliznytsia facility.
As a result of a special operation in Poltava oblast, two FSB agents were caught ‘red-handed’. They attempted to blow up a section of the railway connecting central and eastern Ukraine.
To do that, the perpetrators planted an improvised explosive device near the tracks and the rolling stock’s power supply system.
The saboteurs intended to detonate the device using a remote control.
However, the attack was foiled when the SSU detained them at the scene.
In the event of an explosion, the occupiers hoped to disrupt the logistical routes of weapons, ammunition and fuel for the AFU.
The SSU seized mobile phones from the suspects, who used them to communicate with their russian handler, an officer of the FSB’s 5th Service. The latter has been identified.
This ‘supervisor’ instructed the agents to commit sabotage on the railway during russia’s massive air strikes on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure on 21-22 March this year.
According to the investigation, the enemy accomplices were residents of Kyiv and Kharkiv oblasts.
SSU investigators have notified both detainees of suspicion under Article 28.2, 113.2 of the CCU (sabotage, committed under martial law, by a group, upon prior conspiracy).
The suspects are in custody and face life imprisonment.
The operation was carried out under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office.
