SBU officers uncovered a corrupt head of the State Environmental Inspectorate unit in Kyiv region.

Allegedly, the official, who was responsible for environmental issues, set up a scheme of unlawful enrichment. For money, the suspect offered businessmen not to enter revealed violations of environmental regulations in unscheduled audits.

As a result, law enforcement officers detained the offender according to Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine in his car on receiving USD 20,000 bribe from a local businessman. The official promised to conceal the violations of water usage rules and to avoid a multimillion fine.

The investigative actions within the criminal proceedings initiated for receiving a bribe by an official are ongoing.

The issue of serving the detainee a suspicion notice is being settled.

The operation was carried out jointly with the Territorial Department of the State Bureau of Investigations in Kyiv city under the procedural guidance of Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office.
