SSU detains FSB agent who scouted Ukraine’s defensive borders in Kharkiv oblast
The SSU has detained another agent of russia’s FSB who collected intelligence on deployment and movement of Ukraine’s Defence Forces in the border areas of Kharkiv region.
The enemy was interested in information on movement of the AFU’s heavy armoured vehicles and artillery, including howitzers and multiple rocket launchers near the liberated Vovchansk.
To identify such routes, the individual walked in the area, looking for traces of tank tracks.
On many occasions, he tried to elicit the ‘necessary’ information from local acquaintances during conversations.
The enemy asset also tried to find out where the SSU and National Police units were based near the border with russia.
After the aggressor’s strikes, the agent collected data on their consequences and then ‘reported’ to the occupiers.
Another of his assignments was to set up a network of informants, which was to include residents of the liberated districts of Kharkiv oblast.
The SSU identified the suspect’s location and detained him when he was reconnoitering the border area.
According to the investigation, the agent is a 41-year-old resident of Vovchansk, remotely recruited by the FSB in July this year.
The man came to the aggressor’s attention because of his pro-kremlin views, which he repeatedly shared with others.
After recruitment, the traitor received instructions from the russian service on how to conduct reconnaissance and sabotage and chose a code name ‘Lexus’.
Anonymous chats in a popular messenger app were used for communication with the FSB.
During the search of the suspect’s home, the SSU seized the mobile phone he used to communicate with the occupiers.
Based on the evidence, SSU investigators served the detainee a notice of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).
The court has chosen custody as a measure of restraint. The investigation is ongoing. The suspect is facing life imprisonment.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kharkiv region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
