SSU detains russian agent who spied on Ukrainian marines’ positions in Zaporizhzhia region (video)
In the course of counter-sabotage efforts in Zaporizhzhia frontline areas, the SSU exposed another FSB agent.
The traitor is a former tax police official, dismissed for corruption in 2011.
In early March 2023, he was recruited remotely by an FSB officer to gather intelligence on locations of the Defence Forces in the oblast.
The enemy was primarily interested in coordinates of combat positions of the AFU’s marines on Melitopol direction.
The aggressor also wanted to obtain precise geolocations of railway bridges and energy facilities in the region.
To collect information, the agent drove around target areas posing as a taxi driver and filmed the sites with a hidden dashcam and mobile phone.
For each completed assignment, his handler ‘guaranteed’ a monetary ‘reward’ of UAH 2,000-5,000 (USD 53-132). For secrecy, the informant offered to transfer money to his son’s bank card.
The russian special service promised the traitor a senior ‘position’ in the occupation administration in case the region is captured.
The SSU detained the spy when he was conducting reconnaissance.
According to the investigation, the man came to the FSB’s attention because of his anti-Ukrainian activity on the banned social networks Vkontakte and Odnoklassniki.
Messenger apps were used for communication between the enemy and their agent.
During the search of the suspect’s home, the SSU found the mobile phone used for passing information to russian intelligence.
Based on the evidence collected, SSU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason committed under martial law).
The suspect is in custody. The investigation is underway.
The offender is facing life imprisonment.
The SSU Office in Zaporizhzhia region carried out the operation under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
