Kuiv: SBU detains multiple explosions organizers
The Security Service of Ukraine identified and detained two organizers of multiple explosions in Kyiv city. Allegedly, the group members used improvised explosive device to blow up the enterance to “Shuliavska” metro station and residential building in Podil district.
Apart from that, the law enforcement defused an improvised explosive device near “Minska” metro station, and found another improvised explosive device at a railway yard after an anonymous call.
After the first explosion happened, the suspects sent their financial demands to SBU, Ministry of Internal Affairs, other state authorities and mass media. In particular the suspects demanded to deposit 50 bitcoins worth approximately USD 500,000 on their electronic wallet, using QR-code.
The law enforcement identified owners and users of the mobile phones, their dislocations, places of their residences and vehicles which they used to plan and carry out the terrorist attacks. The SBU identified two main perpetrators of terrorist attacks - the ones who made, put and detonated the improvised explosive devices in many districts of Kyiv city.
“The SBU worked fast and in unison. I am grateful to every employees both from the Central Office and from Kyiv Office, who put every effort to maintain peace and quiet of Kyiv citizens. The Service will do its best to prosecute those who try to swing the situation in Ukraine. The security of Ukrainian citizens is our main concern,” emphasized Ivan Bakanov, the SBU Head.
To carry out the terrorist attacks, the suspects used different mobile phones and SIM-cards, wi-fi routers, circuit boards and signal transmission circuits to detonate the improvised explosive devices. For the purpose of conspiracy, they secretly moved around the city and tried to avoid CCTV cameras.
During 15 searches of the suspects’ places of residence and stay, the law enforcement seized material evidence proving the illegal activity.
In particular, one mobile phone was found, in the memory of which QR-codes similar to those left at the scene of the explosions were stored. Another mobile phone was also seized, from which calls were made to the online store to order wi-fi routers, which were later equipped with explosive devices. During the search a suspect’s car and place of residence, the law enforcement seized devices and materials used to make improvised explosive devices.
Two detainees were served notices of suspicion of committing a crime under Part 2 of Art. 258 of the Criminal code of Ukraine. The form of detention is being chosen.
