SSU detains married couple of enemy agents preparing terrorist attack in Odesa

The SSU Counterintelligence prevented a terrorist attack in Odesa. As a result of the operation, a married couple of enemy agents were detained who, on behalf of russia, were preparing to blow up Ukrainian military personnel.

To carry out the attack, the perpetrators received coordinates from russian special services, which they used to find a cache and take an improvised explosive device from it.

Prior to this, the agents monitored the locations with high concentration of Defence Forces personnel, marked these sites on Google Maps and reported to their handler in russia.

After the handler’s approval of one of the targets, the agents planned to plant the bomb.

The Security Service identified the terrorists at an early stage, documented the crime and detained them as they were heading to the site of the plotted attack.

According to the investigation, the agents were a married couple of unemployed Odessa residents, recruited by russia on a Telegram channel offering easy money.

Smartphones with evidence of working for the aggressor state were seized from the detainees during searches.

SSU investigators notified both individuals of suspicion under Articles 14, 258.2 of the CCU (preparation for a terrorist act).

The decision to qualify their crimes as treason committed under martial law is pending.

The suspects are in custody and face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Odesa region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
