SSU detains ‘double’ agent working for FSB and GRU spying on Dnipropetrovsk region defence plant
The SSU Counterintelligence has detained another enemy agent in Dnipropetrovsk oblast. He turned out to be an engineer at a strategic defence plant who was simultaneously spying for two hostile intelligence services: russia’s federal security service and russia’s military intelligence, the GRU.
According to the investigation, the ruscists recruited the official through his son, who is serving a prison sentence in the aggressor state for drug-related crimes.
In exchange for promises of amnesty for the prisoner, the agent was to collect and pass on to the enemy secret information on the fulfilment of defence contracts.
To do this, he planned to use his state secrets clearance and his actual access to the plant’s special workshops.
The russian intelligence also hoped to obtain from the mole the geolocations of high-tech facilities and the industrial production zone of the enterprise, which the enemy needed to prepare ballistic strikes.
The SSU identified the traitor’s espionage activities at an early stage, documented his crimes, and detained him at his workplace.
The investigation also established that the spy was tasked with finding potential candidates among his colleagues and the plant’s security personnel for recruitment into russia’s intelligence network.
A smartphone containing evidence of his work for two handlers from the FSB and the GRU was seized from the perpetrator during the search. Several anonymous chat rooms in messaging apps were used for covert communication.
SSU investigators have notified the detainee of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).
The suspect is in custody without bail and faces life imprisonment and confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Dnipropetrovsk region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
