SSU detains prosecutor who received bribe from suspect, paid to evade imprisonment
In Mykolaiv region, the SSU has shut down a scheme of extorting payments to evade criminal responsibility for committing serious crimes.
The head of a unit in Mykolaiv District Prosecutor’s Office, stationed in the front-line area, was arrested for accepting a bribe.
In the conditions of russia’s full-scale aggression, the official established a mechanism for ‘bypassing’ justice in criminal proceedings.
For money, he promised an active serviceman, who is under investigation into a road and traffic accident, to ‘solve the issue’ and evade a real prison term. If found guilty, the suspect could face 3 to 8 years in prison.
The SSU detained the official ‘red handed’ when he received the bribe.
The detainee has been notified of suspicion of bribery and fraud.
The crimes he is accused of are punishable by imprisonment for 5 to 10 years with deprivation of right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for 3 years, with confiscation of property.
The pre-trial investigation is underway to identify and bring to justice other persons involved in the scheme.
The SSU carried out the operation under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
