SSU detains enemy agent who helped ruscists advance on Pokrovsk
The SSU has apprehended another agent of russian military intelligence in Donetsk region. He was spying on the Defence Forces in Pokrovsk sector, the hottest area of the frontline.
The perpetrator is an employee of a local mining company who was recruited remotely by the russian intelligence in July this year.
Since then, he has been reconnoitering geolocations of the staffs and fortifications of Ukrainian troops defending Pokrovsk.
The agent collected intelligence on the positions of the heavy AFU artillery, which fires at the occupiers’ assault groups.
He also tried to identify the bases of the units of the Security Service of Ukraine, which are conducting counter-sabotage activities and other missions in the area.
During his reconnaissance sorties, the enemy asset behaved like an ordinary resident of a frontline community going to work at a local mine. During such trips, he covertly recorded locations of Ukrainian defenders and marked the coordinates on Google maps.
To communicate with the GRU, he first used an anonymous account in a popular messenger app. Later, hoping to hide his actions, he switched to communication with his russian handler via banned russian social networks.
The SSU Counterintelligence uncovered the traitor at an early stage. His crimes were documented and the suspect was detained. The leakage of current information on Pokrovsk’s defence was prevented.
During the searches, the SSU seized the suspect’s mobile phone and SIM cards, which he periodically changed to conceal communication with the russians.
SSU investigators served him a notice of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).
The suspect is in custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Donetsk and Luhansk regions under the procedural supervision of Donetsk Region Prosecutor’s Office.
