SSU detains russian agent preparing artillery strikes on AFU staffs near Avdiivka (video)

The SSU Counterintelligence exposed an FSB agent who was preparing a series of rocket and artillery attacks on the Defense Forces positions in Donetsk region.

The enemy’s main targets were staffs and strongholds of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near Avdiivka.

The aggressor was also interested in intelligence on routes of Ukrainian heavy weapons and military vehicles towards the front line, in particular HIMARS systems, Leopard tanks, and Bradley infantry fighting vehicles.

To carry out attacks on the targets, the russian asset had to identify their locations and pass coordinates to the FSB.

The SSU timely identified the traitor and prevented a series of strikes on the positions of Ukrainian defenders during intense fighting near Avdiivka.

As a result of the special operation, the suspect was detained in his home. A mobile phone was seized, which he used to record locations of the Defense Forces and communicate with the FSB.

According to the investigation, the perpetrator is a resident of Myrnohrad, Donetsk region, recruited by the russian service in December 2023.

The man came to the aggressor’s attention because he provided information on AFU units in pro-russian Telegram groups.

To collect intelligence for the FSB, the agent walked in the frontline area and marked ‘necessary’ locations on an electronic map. Then, he sent the geolocations and text descriptions to his russian handler.

Based on the evidence, SSU investigators served the detainee a notice of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The offender is in custody, facing life imprisonment.

The SSU Office in Donetsk and Luhansk region conducted the operation under the procedural supervision of the Donetsk Region Prosecutor’s Office.
