SSU detains russian agent preparing new missile attack on Kyiv
As a result of a special operation in Kyiv region, the SSU detained another enemy agent who collected intelligence to adjust russian strikes on Ukraine.
The man was an asset of the main directorate of the general staff of the russian armed forces (better known as ‘the GRU’).
On the aggressor’s instructions, he identified geolocation of Ukrainian Defence Forces’ units in Kyiv region.
The enemy was most interested in the AFU’s repair bases, where Ukrainian equipment is maintained and restored.
The informant also passed intelligence to the invaders on power substations in Kyiv.
According to the investigation, the GRU was hoping that while conducting reconnaissance their agent would be able to spot locations of Ukrainian air defence systems near the energy facilities.
The occupiers needed the intelligence to prepare a series of targeted air strikes on Kyiv and nearby settlements.
The SSU detained the suspect ‘red-handed’ when he was recording a video of a Ukrainian military base and referencing its GPS coordinates to an electronic map.
According to the investigation, the enemy accomplice is a 23-year-old resident of Odesa who moved to Kyiv in search of ‘quick money’. The man left his CV on specialized online platforms for finding odd jobs.
This is how the GRU found and recruited him for covert activity for the aggressor state’s benefit.
All further communication was carried out through one of the messenger apps. For conspiracy, the traitor created several anonymous accounts.
During the search of the suspect’s home, the SSU found a laptop and a smartphone with evidence of his crime against Ukraine.
Based on the collected evidence, SSU investigators notified the detained individual of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason committed under martial law).
The suspect is in custody, facing life imprisonment.
The operation was carried out under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
