SSU detains russian agent who helped enemy prepare missile strikes on power substations in western Ukraine
In Ternopil region, the SSU exposed an agent of the russian FSB.
The aggressor’s accomplice was collecting information on location of critical infrastructure facilities and their operation in Ukraine’s western oblasts.
Primarily, he was interested in locations and technical specifications of local power substations.
The traitor planned to pass the intelligence to the enemy for preparation and launching of targeted missile strikes on Ukrainian energy facilities.
However, the SSU derailed this plan: the criminal actions were documented and the informant was timely exposed and detained on an attempt to transmit intelligence to occupiers from his own smartphone.
According to the investigation, the offender is a resident of Kremenets district, Ternopil oblast, who was recruited by the russian special service after the start of the full-scale invasion.
The individual came to the aggressor’s attention because of his pro-kremlin views, which he repeatedly shared on social media.
To carry out enemy assignments, the agent traveled around the area, located energy facilities and recorded their coordinates.
A specially created Telegram channel was used for communication with the FSB.
During the search, the SSU seized a phone with evidence of the suspect’s reconnaissance and sabotage activities for the aggressor state.
SSU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion of high treason committed under martial law (Article 111.2 of the CCU).
Court is to decide on custody as a measure of restraint.
The investigation is ongoing.
The SSU Office in Ternopil region carried out the operation and investigation under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
