SSU detains enemy agent planning to blow up railway in Kharkiv region
The SSU Counterintelligence has prevented sabotage at Ukrzaliznytsia facilities in Kharkiv oblast.
As a result of a special operation, the SSU detained an enemy saboteur who tried to blow up power lines of railway tracks and rolling stock near a junction station.
The perpetrator was a local resident who worked for the GRU (the main directorate of the general staff of the russian armed forces).
According to the investigation, he planned to use an improvised explosive device to carry out a series of explosions. The instructions for its domestic manufacture were provided by the russian military intelligence.
If the sabotage was successful, the occupiers hoped to disrupt the logistics of fuel and ammunition supplies for Ukraine’s Defence Forces near Lyman.
However, the SSU uncovered the enemy accomplice, identified his russian handlers and their criminal intentions.
The SSU then documented the saboteur’s reconnaissance and subversive activities and detained him at the stage of preparing the explosions.
The asset was also tasked with collecting information on the AFU locations in Kharkiv and Pavlohrad, Dnipropetrovsk region.
To do this, he drove in both regions in the dark and secretly recorded locations of Ukrainian troops.
His actions were coordinated remotely by an acquaintance – a GRU agent based in russia.
Anonymous chats in messenger apps were used for communication.
During the searches in the suspect’s apartment, the SSU found a mobile phone and other material evidence of the crime.
SSU investigators have now served him a notice of suspicion under Article 114-2.2 of the CCU (unauthorized dissemination of information on transfer or deployment of the AFU, committed under martial law).
The suspect is in custody and faces imprisonment.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Offices in Kharkiv, Donetsk and Luhansk regions under the procedural supervision of Kharkiv Region Prosecutor’s Office.
