SSU detains russian agent who adjusted enemy missile strikes to disrupt heating season in south of Ukraine

The SSU has exposed the occupiers’ attempts by to destroy critical infrastructure facilities vital for the heating season in southern Ukraine.

As a result of an operation in Mykolaiv, the SSU detained an agent, who passed geolocation data of heat supply enterprises in front-line areas to the enemy.

The invaders planned to use these coordinates to launch missile and artillery strikes on the city, and thus destabilize the situation in the south.

In case of effective shelling, occupiers promised their accomplice a monetary ‘reward’.

According to the investigation, the traitor is a resident of Mykolaiv, who was recruited by russian special services after the full-scale invasion started. He came to their attention because of pro-kremlin views, which he expressed among his circle.

To carry out the enemy’s assignment, the agent took photos and videos of facilities. Then, he sent georeferenced material with detailed descriptions to his russian supervisor through an anonymous Telegram channel.

If the city is captured, the invaders promised the informant ‘security guarantees’ protecting him from repressive actions of the occupation administration.

During the search of the suspect’s home, the SSU found computer equipment and mobile phones with evidence of criminal activity.

The detainee has been notified of suspicion of treason committed under martial law. Court has ruled to hold him in custody. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.

The SSU Offices in Mykolaiv and Kherson oblasts exposed the agent under the procedural supervision of Mykolaiv Region Prosecutor’s Office.
