In the Donetsk region, the SSU Counterintelligence has detained another enemy spotter. He is an employee of a municipal utility company in Sloviansk who had begun working for the russian military intelligence agency, the GRU.

The investigation revealed that the perpetrator had come to russia’s attention due to anti-Ukrainian comments he posted in chat rooms on the Telegram messaging app.

Tasked by the GRU, the agent was tracking the locations of the Defence Forces’ backup command posts in the frontline town, as well as their movement routes.

To maintain his cover, he took a job as a general labourer at a local landscaping company.

Under the guise of work-related trips, the traitor continued to track concentrations of Ukrainian troops and military equipment in the Sloviansk sector.

The enemy asset stored the information he gathered on his smartphone as coordinates for potential ‘targets’. The ruscists were preparing strikes on these sites using guided aerial bombs and rocket artillery, particularly the Smerch multiple launch rocket system.

The SSU identified the agent, documented his crimes, and detained him. Simultaneously, action was taken to secure the locations reconnoitered by the enemy.

A mobile phone containing evidence of his work for the GRU was seized during the search.

SSU investigators have notified the detainee of his status as a suspect under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law).

The suspect is in custody without bail and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions under the procedural supervision of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
