SSU detains russian agent who ‘guided’ kamikaze drone strikes in Odesa region
The SSU has exposed a russian agent in Odesa region. The spy carried out reconnaissance of movement and sites of deployment of the Defence Forces of Ukraine in the south of the region.
The agent’s primary target was intelligence on where the units of the Armed Forces, security and law enforcement agencies of Ukraine were based, number of personnel and military equipment.
He also identified accurate coordinates of roadblocks and critical infrastructure facilities, mostly those related to heat and energy supply.
The enemy planned to use such data to prepare sabotage and carry out airstrikes, including by cruise missiles and kamikaze drones.
According to the investigation, the traitor is a resident of Reni, Odesa oblast, recruited by russian special services after the start the full-scale invasion. He came to the aggressors’ attention because of his pro-kremlin views, which he actively expressed in his environment.
To carry out enemy assignments, the agent carried out covert surveillance of the movement of the units of the Armed Forces and the National Guard of Ukraine, photographing his targets.
The informant passed the obtained intelligence to occupiers through an anonymous Telegram channel as ‘photo reports’ with markings on electronic maps and detailed descriptions.
As a result of a special operation, the SSU detained the agent when he attempted to send classified information to russians.
A mobile phone with evidence of unlawful activity was seized from the suspect.
SSU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion of treason committed under martial law (Article 111.2 of the CCU). Court has ruled to keep the suspect in custody.
The SSU Office in Odesa Region carried out the operation under the procedural supervision of Odesa Region Prosecutor’s Office.
