SSU detains russian agent who collected intelligence on Ukrainian aviation in Dnipropetrovsk oblast
As a result of a special operation in Dnipropetrovsk oblast, the SSU Counterintelligence detained an agent of the main directorate of the general staff of the russian armed forces (better known as the GRU).
The spy was collecting intelligence on bases and movements of the Defence Forces in the region.
The enemy was primarily interested in locations and operation modes of Ukrainian military aircraft. For example, the agent recorded the regularity of flights, quantity of aircraft, etc.
The traitor also passed information to the aggressor on the consequences of enemy air strikes on the city.
Occupiers planned to use these data to prepare and conduct massive air attacks on the city.
According to the investigation, the enemy informant is a local resident, who was recruited remotely by the russian military intelligence.
To engage the man in covert cooperation, the aggressor used one of the pro-russian Telegram channels, where the suspect actively spread his ‘posts’ in support of the invaders.
The agent sent the information to the GRU via a messenger app in the form of electronic coordinates and georeferenced media files.
During the search of the suspect’s home, the SSU found a mobile phone, which he used to communicate with his russian handlers.
Based on the collected evidence, the SSU notified the detained individual of suspicion under two Articles of the CCU:
- 111.2 (high treason committed under martial law);
- 114-2.2 (unauthorized dissemination of information on sending, movement of weapons and ammunition to Ukraine, movement, transfer or deployment of the AFU or other lawful military formations, committed under martial law).
The court chose custody as a measure of restraint for the suspect. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
The SSU Office in Dnipropetrovsk region carried out the operation under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
