SSU detains russian agent who covertly photographed Odesa defenders

Within the counter-sabotage efforts in the frontline areas in the south of Ukraine, the SSU detained another agent of russian special services.

The spy conducted reconnaissance of sites of deployment and movement of Ukrainian troops in Odesa.

The agent was also working on another enemy assignment: collecting identification data of Ukrainian defenders and photographing them.

The occupiers planned to use such information and material for sabotage and information and psychological operations against the city’s defenders.

In addition, the invaders tried to obtain from their accomplice the coordinates of location of personnel, military equipment and weapons of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in order to carry out missile strikes against them.

According to the investigation, the enemy agent is a local resident, whom russian special services recruited after the full-scale invasion began.

The prerequisite for recruitment was the active pro-kremlin position of the person in question, which he expressed in his circle and in social networks.

For communication, the spy used various messenger apps, including an anonymous Telegram channel.

The SSU timely exposed the agent’s activity and detained him in Odesa.

During the search, a mobile phone with evidence of the offence was seized from the suspect.

SSU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion of crime under Article 114-2.2 of the CCU (unauthorized dissemination of information on transfer, movement of weapons and ammunition to Ukraine, movement, transfer or deployment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine or other legal military formations, committed under martial law or state of emergency).

Court has ruled to keep the suspect in custody.

The SSU Office in Odesa Region carried out the operation under the procedural supervision of Odesa Region Prosecutor’s Office.
