SSU detains russian anti-Semitic agent who threatened head of Jewish community in Zakarpattia (video)
The SSU prevented attempts by russian special services to destabilize the internal political situation in western Ukraine.
As a result of a multi-stage special operation, the SSU detained a resident of Zakarpattia oblast who, on the aggressor’s instructions, incited anti-Semitic sentiments in the region.
In December 2022, on the facades of buildings in downtown Uzhhorod he covertly painted inscriptions calling for murder of Jews.
The perpetrator also sent his own pseudo-scientific paper to the leader of the Jewish community, in which he substantiates his hatred for this nationality.
The investigation established that until 2014 the offender had temporarily lived in North Ossetia, russia. The SSU is currently investigating the individual’s ties with russian intelligence.
During the search of the suspect’s home, the SSU found computer equipment with evidence of the crime and pro-kremlin literature, where russian authors praise russian special services.
Investigators also seized paint-stained clothes the offender was wearing when painting anti-Semitic inscriptions on buildings.
Based on the collected evidence, the individual was served a notice of suspicion under Article 161.1 of the CCU (incitement of national, regional, racial or religious hatred and enmity).
The investigation is ongoing.
The SSU Office in Zakarpattia region carried out the operation jointly with the National Police under the supervision of Uzhhorod District Prosecutor’s Office.
