SSU detains russian saboteur who arrived from Middle East to commit attacks on Ukrainian railways (video)
The SSU Counterintelligence prevented a series of large-scale acts of sabotage on the railway by detaining an enemy agent during a multi-stage special operation in Chernivtsi.
According to the investigation, the detainee is an agent of russian-controlled ‘DNR’ special services; he has a Ukrainian passport and is registered in Kyiv. For a long time, he was a sleeper agent in one of the countries of the Middle East.
After russia started its full-scale aggression, the agent was instructed by his supervisors to come to Ukraine to gather intelligence on transportation channels for supplying weapons and military equipment to our country.
In addition, the spy was to collect data on the location of fuel tanks and Ukrainian military units in Bukovina.
After obtaining such intelligence, the enemy planned to carry out acts of sabotage, including explosions at railway facilities and logistics warehouses.
Currently, the detainee has been notified of suspicion under Article 258-3.1 (participation in a terrorist group or terrorist organization) of the CCU. The court has chosen detention as a measure of restraint.
The pre-trial investigation is underway to identify and prosecute other individuals involved in intelligence and subversive activities against Ukraine.
The special operation to expose and detain the spy was carried out by the SSU Counterintelligence and SSU investigators in Chernivtsi region under the procedural supervision of the prosecutor’s office.
