SSU detains russian informant who wanted to disrupt Ukraine’s counteroffensive near Bakhmut
As a result of counter-sabotage efforts in the front-line areas of Donetsk region, the SSU detained another enemy accomplice.
The spy collected information for russian occupiers on temporary bases and movements of the Defence Forces units in Kramatorsk.
Primarily, he tried to track routes of Ukrainian armored vehicles, involved in the AFU’s counteroffensive on the eastern front, including near Bakhmut.
The aggressor’s agent sent the gathered intelligence to an ‘officer’ of the russia-controlled ‘DNR’s ministry of state security’. A messenger app was used for communication.
The SSU detained the informant when he was conducting reconnaissance in town.
According to the investigation, the suspect is a 48-year-old local resident who, on his own initiative, offered invaders his assistance in the war against Ukraine.
According to preliminary information, the man ‘contacted’ the aggressor through one of the pro-kremlin Telegram channels.
To collect intelligence, he involved another two locals, who covertly surveilled locations of Ukrainian defenders.
SSU investigators have notified the detained individual of suspicion under Article 111-1.7 of the CCU (providing assistance to the armed forces of the aggressor state in conducting warfare against the AFU and other military formations).
The suspect is in custody. The investigation is ongoing to bring to justice all persons involved in the crime, who are facing up to 15 years in prison.
The SSU Office in Donetsk and Luhansk regions carried out the counter-sabotage activities under the procedural supervision of Donetsk Region Prosecutor’s Office.
