SSU detains enemy informant who spied on Ukrainian combat aircraft in Kirovohrad region
The SSU’s cyber units have detained another informant of the aggressor who was collecting intelligence on Ukraine’s Air Force in Kirovohrad region.
Primarily, the agent was interested in directions and frequency of flights of Ukrainian combat aircraft, including frontline bombers and fighters.
He also tried to locate operational military airfields, control points and ammunition depots of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The perpetrator sent the gathered data to specialized Telegram channels created by russian special services to collect information on Ukrainian defenders.
To conceal the criminal activity, he often changed his profile nickname in the messenger and used a proxy server for anonymization.
The SSU documented the suspect’s crime and apprehended him in his apartment.
According to the investigation, the enemy informant is a resident of Kropyvnytskyi. His anti-Ukrainian posts on social media brought him to the aggressor’s attention about 3 months ago.
All further communication with the occupiers was carried out through Internet resources controlled by russian intelligence.
To spy, the man drove around the region secretly recording military installations of Ukraine’s Defence Forces.
He also tried to elicit the ‘necessary’ information from acquaintances, and they were taking to him unwittingly.
During the searches at the suspect’s home, the SSU found computer equipment and a mobile phone with evidence of criminal actions.
SSU investigators served him a notice of suspicion under Article 114-2.2 of the CCU (unauthorized dissemination of information on sending, transfer of weapons and ammunition to Ukraine, movement, transfer or deployment of the AFU).
The court chose custody without bail as a measure of restraint. The suspect faces up to 8 years in prison.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kirovohrad region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
