SSU detains enemy informant who spied on Ukrainian ships near Mykolaiv port

In Mykolaiv region, the SSU’s cyber units have detained another informant of russian intelligence services, who spied on Ukraine’s Defence Forces near the Black Sea.

The priority ‘targets’ were Ukrainian warships and directions of their movement along sea and river routes.

The agent also wanted to identify coordinates of the AFU ground units, including those involved in combat operations on the left bank of Kherson oblast.

The invaders needed the intelligence to prepare missile and drone attacks on the frontline part of southern Ukraine.

However, the SSU neutralized the threat timely. The aggressor’s informant was uncovered at the initial stage of his reconnaissance and sabotage activities.

This made it possible to ensure the safety the AFU units, document the suspect’s actions and detain him.

According to the investigation, the enemy accomplice is a local resident, recruited remotely earlier this year.

The man’s numerous posts in support of the aggressive war against Ukraine brought him to the attention of the russian intelligence.

After completing enemy assignments, the agent reported to his handler from one of the russian intelligence agencies in a messenger app.

During the search of the suspect’s home, the SSU seized a mobile phone with evidence of his intelligence gathering for the aggressor.

SSU investigators have served the detainee a notice of suspicion under Article 114-2.3 of the CCU (unauthorized dissemination of information on sending, transfer of weapons, movement, transfer or deployment of the AFU, committed under martial law).

The suspect is in custody and faces 12 years in prison.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Mykolaiv Office under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
