SSU detains enemy agent who travelled up to 100 km per day to identify Ukrainian positions near Avdiivka and Maryinka

The SSU Counterintelligence has apprehended another FSB agent who was reconnoitering the deployment and movement of Ukraine’s Defence Forces in Donetsk oblast.

The enemy asset focused on identifying locations of the AFU units engaged in combat operations in Avdiivka and Maryinka sectors.

To gather intelligence, the woman travelled independently to the settlements near Kurakhove, Myrnohrad, Selidove, Novohrodivka and Mykhailivka.

To locate and record positions of Ukrainian troops, she would ride by public transport up to 100 km near the frontline a day.

The SSU identified the aggressor’s informant, documented the crime and detained her in her apartment. The investigators seized a mobile phone, which the traitor used to communicate with the FSB and record Ukrainian targets.

Due to the SSU’s prompt response, measures were taken to secure the AFU’s positions and routes.

According to the investigation, the suspect is a 33-year-old resident of Novohrodivka, recruited remotely by an FSB officer in October 2023.

It was the woman’s anti-Ukrainian activity on social media that brought her to the aggressor’s attention.

To communicate with the FSB, the asset used an anonymous chat in a messenger app, transmitting the data in text messages and as marks on electronic maps.

For the assignments fulfilled, the handler paid to her bank card.

The occupiers needed the intelligence to plan military operations, in particular, rocket and artillery attacks on Ukrainian positions.

Based on the evidence, SSU investigators served the detainee a notice of suspicion under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason committed under martial law).

The suspect is in custody and faces life imprisonment. The investigation is ongoing.

The operation was conducted by the SSU Office in Donetsk and Luhansk regions under the procedural supervision of Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
