The Security Service of Ukraine has foiled another attempt by ruscists to undermine the socio-political situation in Ukraine’s western regions. As a result of a special operation, the Service apprehended a couple who were preparing two explosions in Ternopil.

First, the aggressor planned to blow up a service car parked near a Territorial Recruitment Center, and after the emergency services arrived at the scene a second bomb was to be detonated.

In this way, russian intelligence services planned not only to kill a maximum number of Ukrainian citizens but also eliminate their assets as ‘unnecessary witnesses’.

According to the investigation, russia’s orders were carried out by two drug addicts from Poltava region: a 42-year-old man and his 30-year-old partner, looking for money for a dose on Telegram channels.

They were recruited there by an officer of a russian special service, who instructed the couple to arrive in Ternopil to prepare a terrorist attack.

Upon arrival, the agents received instructions to rent an apartment. There, they stored two improvised explosive devices equipped with additional destructive elements and remote detonation devices.

The SSU uncovered the agents at an early stage of their sabotage activities. After documenting their crimes, both suspects were detained on their way to the site of the plotted terrorist attack with explosives.

SSU investigators notified the detainees of suspicion under two Articles of the CCU:

• 258.2 (preparation to commit a terrorist act);
• 263.1 (illegal handling of explosives).

The suspects are in custody and face up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Ternopil region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.

Recently, the SSU detained 26-year-old Lviv resident, whom the ruscists planned to blow up unwittingly near a Territorial Recruitment Center in Kryvyi Rih.

The SSU is warning: russian intelligence services have started using new tactics – they blow up their agents, use them unwittingly and then get rid of them as unnecessary witnesses.
