SSU detains enemy informant who tried to derail Ukraine’s counteroffensive in Kharkiv region
The SSU Counterintelligence has apprehended a traitor who was providing data on combat positions of Ukraine’s Defence Forces to the enemy just before Kharkiv region was liberated.
From June to September 2022, the woman passed to the occupiers the geolocations of the AFU units concentrated on Kupiansk direction.
She also ‘informed’ the aggressor state on heavy weapons and approximate number of Ukrainian troops there.
To collect the intelligence, the perpetrator walked along the frontline area and covertly photographed the Defence Forces’ temporary bases.
Then she sent the coordinates with text descriptions to a ‘liaison’ from russian intelligence.
The latter turned out to be her collaborator friend, who at the time was a member of the occupation ‘russian ministry of internal affairs’ in Balakliya. He passed the information to the russian intelligence service.
The invaders planned to use the data to repel the AFU’s counter-offensive, but they failed.
After the liberation of Kharkiv region, the agent laid low in the de-occupied Balakliya and tried to destroy evidence of her cooperation with the aggressor.
However, the SSU documented her criminal actions, established her location and detained her.
The investigation revealed that the enemy accomplice was a local resident who, after the seizure of part of Kharkiv region, moved to Ukraine-controlled territory.
During the search, the SSU seized a mobile phone with evidence of the crime.
SSU investigators notified her of suspicion under Article 114-2.3 of the CCU (unauthorized dissemination of information on deployment of the AFU with the aim of providing it to unlawful armed groups).
The suspect is in custody and faces up to 12 years in prison.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Kharkiv region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
