SSU detains enemy agents who tried to derail freight train in Odesa region
The SSU Counterintelligence has prevented an act of sabotage by russian intelligence services on Ukrainian railways in Odesa region.
As a result of the operation, the SSU detained two enemy agents who tried to derail a freight train on the local railway line.
To do that, the perpetrators began dismantling a part of the track at night and hammering metal rebars into its joints.
At this stage, both agents were detained by the SSU.
They are two local residents aged 17 and 18 who were looking for easy money on Telegram.
There, the young men were remotely recruited by the russian intelligence officer who coordinated an attempted terrorist attack in Odesa region in January this year.
Then, the SSU Counterintelligence detained a saboteur who was preparing to simultaneously blow up an administrative building of an AFU unit and a car parked nearby.
Resorting to terrorist attacks and sabotage, the aggressor state hoped to spread panic among the civilian population and damage the transport logistics of the Defence Forces.
SSU investigators have now notified the detained individuals of suspicion under Article 113.2 of the CCU (sabotage, committed under martial law).
The decision to qualify their crimes also under Article 111.2 of the CCU (high treason, committed under martial law) is pending.
The suspects are in custody and face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Odesa region under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
