The SSU counterintelligence detained two russian agents in Donetsk region. The perpetrators operated separately in Kramatorsk and Lyman, where they guided enemy shelling of frontline cities.

Using intelligence provided by the agents, ruscists hoped to strike backup command posts, staging bases, and logistics depots of the Defense Forces of Ukrainian fighting on the front lines in the eastern sector.

In Kramatorsk, law enforcement detained the driver of a municipal bucket truck who was guiding airstrikes on the city.

According to the investigation, the suspect was recruited remotely by the occupying forces due to his pro-russian views. To guide enemy fire, he collected the coordinates of Defense Forces artillery positions on the outskirts of Kramatorsk and passed them to the aggressor to guide missile and drone strikes.

The perpetrator stored the gathered information on his smartphone to later ‘report’ to his handler from russia.

To keep his contacts with the enemy secret, the agent regularly deleted his messages, and used a ‘password-greeting’ to verify his identity at the start of each communication session.

However, that didn't save him. SSU officers documented every step of the suspect's espionage activities and detained him red-handed while he was conducting reconnaissance near a military facility.

In Lyman, a former employee of the local branch of Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian railways) was exposed; he had been recruited by ruscists through an acquaintance – a ‘deputy’ from the temporarily occupied territory of Donetsk region.

Following his instructions, the agent scouted the frontline town to record and transmit geolocations of the Defense Forces of Ukraine and defensive structures to the enemy.

After each reconnaissance mission, the perpetrator marked the identified targets on Google Maps to pass to a ‘liaison’, who then reported to russian intelligence officers.

The SSU counterintelligence detained the suspect in Sloviansk, where he had been evacuated by Ukrainian defenders from the frontline town.

During searches, smartphones containing evidence of collaboration with the enemy were seized from the detainees.

SSU investigators have served both suspects with notices of suspicion for crimes committed under two articles of the CCU:

• 111.2 (treason committed under martial law);
• 114-2.3 (unauthorized disclosure of information regarding the movement, deployment, or location of the Armed Forces of Ukraine under martial law).

The suspects are currently in custody. They face 12 years to life imprisonment, with the confiscation of property.

The operations were carried out by officers of the SSU Main Office in Donetsk and Luhansk regions under the procedural supervision of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor's Office.
