SSU detains two spotters guiding russian strikes at Dnipro and Sloviansk
The SSU Counterintelligence has detained two enemy agents operating independently of one another in Dnipro and Sloviansk.
Both suspects were identified at the early stage of their espionage activities. This enabled the Ukrainian forces to secure their reserve command posts and petrol stations, which the agents had been targeting.
The investigation revealed that one of the spotters was an employee of a petrol station complex in Sloviansk who had been recruited by the ruscists.
He came to the enemy’s attention through a former schoolmate who had moved to russia after the full-scale war started and was working for the russian intelligence services.
After the recruitment, the perpetrator covertly filmed Ukrainian Armed Forces convoys located on or near petrol stations using his mobile phone camera.
He was then supposed to send photographs and videos of military equipment to the russians to help them prepare a precision strike.
The agent also drove around other petrol stations and bridges used by the Defence Forces for logistics in an attempt to collect more intelligence.
Another asset, recruited by the enemy, is a native of Pokrovsk who had moved to Dnipro in 2024 and settled in a local hostel.
He came to the attention of the russian intelligence due to his pro-kremlin comments in Telegram chats.
Acting on the instructions from his handler, the agent was to help guide russian missile and drone attacks at locations in the regional centre with large concentrations of Defence Forces personnel and military equipment.
To gather intelligence, the spotter walked around the area or took public transport to reach remote districts.
During the searches, computer equipment and smartphones containing evidence of their collaboration with the enemy were seized from the suspects.
SSU investigators have notified the detainees of suspicion under the Articles of the CCU:
- 111.2 (high treason, committed under martial law);
- 114-2.2 (unauthorised dissemination of information on movement or deployment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, committed under martial law).
The suspects are in custody without bail and face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions under the procedural supervision of the Donetsk Region Prosecutor’s Office.
