SSU detains another russian agent who ‘hunted’ for HIMARS positions
In the course of a counter-sabotage operation in the front-line areas of Mykolaiv region, the SSU detained an agent of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of russian armed forces (aka GRU).
The agent is a resident of Mykolaiv region, who collected intelligence on deployment, movement and armament of Ukrainian Defence Forces in the southern direction.
The traitor’s main task was to identify and pass to occupiers coordinates of HIMARS combat positions.
The aggressor planned to use such information to prepare and carry out sabotage and missile strikes.
The SSU Counterintelligence established that the agent was recruited by a serving officer of the russian military intelligence after the start of the full-scale invasion.
The individual in question came to the attention of russian special services as an active supporter of pro-kremlin views, spreading his anti-Ukrainian posts on social networks.
He received the offer to cooperate with the aggressor to his own phone through a messenger app. After recruitment, the informant began to carry out enemy’s assignments.
The agent sent information on targets to his russian handler through secure electronic communication channels in the form of detailed schemes, which he destroyed after sending.
During the search of the detainee’s home, the SSU found a mobile phone that he used to communicate with his russian coordinator.
SSU investigators have notified the traitor of suspicion. The court has decided to keep him in custody.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Office in Mykolaiv Region under the procedural supervision of Mykolaiv Region Prosecutor’s Office.
Earlier, the SSU detained two russian agents in Donetsk region who were collecting intelligence on HIMARS positions on the eastern front.
