SSU detains another former guard of russian torture chamber that operated during Kherson’s occupation

In Kherson, the Security Service of Ukraine has detained another collaborator. He turned out to be a local resident who, after the temporary capture of the city, became an ‘inspector’ at a russian occupation prison.

According to the investigation, after joining the ranks of the russian repressive authority, he received a weapon, a russian uniform, and an ‘ID’ that allowed him to pass through the russian checkpoints unhindered.

While in this ‘position’, he patrolled the perimeter of the jail where the ruscists were bringing members of the regional resistance movement.

He also stood guard on a watchtower, monitoring the prison buildings and the grounds of the facility.

After the liberation of Kherson, the collaborator lay low, hiding at his home. But in April of this year, he decided to apply for a position with a local law enforcement agency, hoping to ‘cover his tracks’ regarding his collaboration with russia’s occupation administration.

The SSU detained the suspect while he was applying for a position at a government agency, submitting documents and concealing his past.

SSU investigators notified him of his status as a suspect under Article 111-1.7 of the CCU (collaboration).

The investigation is ongoing. The suspect faces up to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The investigation is carried out by the SSU Offices in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Mykolaiv Region under the procedural supervision of the Mykolaiv Specialised Defence Prosecutor’s Office for the Southern Region.
