SSU detains GRU agent who adjusted enemy air strikes on Odesa and justified ruscist crimes
In Odesa, the Security Service of Ukraine has detained another agent of russian military intelligence (‘the GRU’), who helped the enemy carry out air attacks on the city and supported ruscists on social media.
According to the SSU Main Directorate for Internal Security, among the potential targets whose coordinates the traitor collected were Security Service units performing combat missions in the southern part of the front.
The aggressor’s accomplice turned out to be a 52-year-old local unemployed woman. She came to the GRU’s attention through an acquaintance who lives in russia and cooperates with the russian military intelligence.
To identify coordinates for air strikes, the agent walked around the area and marked on Google Maps the locations of sites that, in her opinion, could be used by Ukrainian defenders.
For secrecy, the spotter pretended to be walking dogs that she borrowed from her acquaintances. She also regularly changed her clothes and demeanor.
She sent the collected data – photos, videos, and geolocations – to her handler via a messenger app.
The SSU caught her red-handed while she was conducting reconnaissance near a restricted facility.
A smartphone with a prepared intelligence ‘report’ for the GRU was seized from her during the search.
The phone also contained her Telegram posts, in which she justified russia’s full-scale invasion.
SSU investigators have notified the detainee of suspicion under three Articles of the CCU:
- 111.2 (high treason, committed under martial law);
- 436.2 (justification of russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine);
- 161.1 (violation of equality of citizens).
The suspect is in custody without bail. She faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The operation was carried out by the SSU Main Directorate for Internal Security and investigators of the SSU Odesa Office under the procedural supervision of the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
